Responsibilities
A new full time CNS opportunity is available for the Neuro ICU at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. A MSN is required for the position. If you are a CNS with a Neuro focus, this is the position for you
Our CNS staff is vital to ongoing clinical success of our nurses. With our focus on high level neurosurgical care as well as pursuing a stroke center and Magnet status for nursing, this is a mission critical position.

Neuroscience Institute: The Henry Ford Hospital is one of the top programs of Health Stroke Care and Research Center, comprehensive epilepsy, and Parkinsons diseases treatment and surgery program, one of the largest neurosurgery spine programs in Michigan; and the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center for the treatment of the most complex brain tumors.
UNIT OVERVIEWS:
Neuro ICU: Most common patient cases include:
* Neurosurgical craniotomy for tumor, aneurysm, vascular repair, hemorrhage, stroke, seizure, or trauma.
* Extra:cranial vascular disease.
* Complex spine and spinal cord disorders. Status Epilepticus, Myasthenia Gravis, and Guillian:Barre Syndrome.
* Neuro:trauma related to gunshot wounds, stab wounds, motor vehicle accidents.
Physician coverage is provided by two Neuro Intensivists, a NP, and rotating residents from Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Anesthesia Dept. Unit nurses also work closely with respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and a case manager team who are assigned to the unit.
The unit has a shared governance program. This group is comprised with new and experienced nurses. The unit governance committee develops standards and programs specific to the care of our patients and to enrich the work life of the staff.
MAJOR CNS RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Works under the direction of the Nursing Administrator and in cooperation with the unit Nurse Managers and Unit Educators.
* Design, implement, and evaluate innovative individual or population based programs of care to achieve desired quality cost effective, nurse sensitive outcomes.
* Serves as leader/consultant/mentor/change agent in advancing the practice of nursing among unit nurses to achieve outcomes.
* Advance nursing practice through innovative, evidence based interventions, best practice guidelines, and modification of professional and standards of organizational policies that direct the care of nursing personnel and other providers of healthcare t
