Overview:
The Hermelin Brain Tumor Center (HBTC), part of the Department of Neurosurgery and the Neurosciences Institute at Henry Ford Hospital, is seeking to recruit a faculty member at the level of Assistant or Associate Scientist. We are seeking investigators who show significant potential to excel in research addressing the biology and/or therapeutic development for brain tumors at the molecular, cellular, systems and/or animal model level. Applicants holding a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, followed by postdoctoral training, and demonstrating an outstanding record of scientific achievement in the field of cancer biology, will be considered. Successful track record of peer:reviewed funding preferred for the level of Assistant Scientist. Significant extramural funding history is required for consideration at the Associate Scientist level. Good communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment are essential.
Faculty Members of the HBTC have access to valuable resources for translational research, including a large collection of archived an annotated tumor tissue samples and a comprehensive panel of high grade glioma patient:derived cancer stem cells and xenografts. Opportunities are available for collaboration with the multi:disciplinary cancer research community at HFHS and in the Detroit area, and affiliation with the School of Medicine at Wayne State University. Research at Henry Ford Hospital is led by a group of 81 Bioscientific Staff scientists, as well as dozens of physician:scientists and PhDs engaged in clinical research activities. Translational and basic science studies run the gamut from whole animal physiology to cell and molecular biology to bioengineering with an emphasis on studies that can directly impact patient care. Basic sciences programs are focused on Neurosciences (brain tumors, stroke, traumatic brain injury), Cardiovascular and Renal, Solid Tumors (prostate, breast, head and neck cancers), Bone and Joint, Population and Public Health, and Immunology. Henry Ford Hospital scientists and physicians participate in many clinical trials, approximately 1,700 active studies in medical and surgical departments. Research at the Henry Ford Hospital is funded through the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense; private foundations; state and local agencies; pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
