Juvenile Detention Specialists participate in the security, care and custody of youth residents in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility who have been accused of criminal activity and are going through the judicial process. They are responsible for maintaining control and security of living quarters; instructing and supervising youth in personal hygiene; counseling youth on personal behavior problems and supervising the housekeeping activities of the youth in and about the facility. Juvenile Detention Specialists are also responsible for documentation of youth activities and behavior, maintaining housekeeping supplies and clothing and special detail work in the Facility.
Duties:

Juvenile Detention Specialists are also responsible for documentation of youth activities and behavior, maintaining housekeeping supplies and clothing and special detail work in the Facility.
Qualifications:
At the time of application and appointment, applicants must have: A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Human Services, Social Services, Education or a closely related degree; OR An Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours and (2) years full-time paid professional experience in corrections, law enforcement, education, human services or social services; AND A valid State of Michigan Chauffeur's license and an acceptable safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION). NOTE: Applicants must describe their experience and training in sufficient detail to allow evaluation of their acceptability under the above qualifications and submit proof of education (MUST BE OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS). Failure to do so will result in a rejection of their application. SPECIAL CONDITIONS As a condition of employment, appointees must: 1. Obtain Family Independence Agency Central Registry Clearance and annually thereafter; 2. Be willing to accept appointment to any one of the three shifts in any five-day work week schedule, Monday through Sunday, including holidays; 3. Accept mandatory overtime; 4. Have a medical examination when hired and annually thereafter; 5. Have binocular vision; 6. Be fingerprinted for criminal history check and subject to periodic criminal checks; 7. Provide three (3) Educational or Professional letters of recommendation. Letters must include relationship to applicant, phone number and mailing address; and 8. Upon successful completion of the written portion of this examination, be required to provide a list of all past employers and educational institutions, including name of company, address and phone number.
